Registering a Death

All deaths, except those referred to the Coroner, must be registered within 5 days.  A bereavement adviser will explain how you should do this and who may register a death.

You can register a death at any of the nine Registration offices in Norfolk.  Appointments are necessary for all offices. Click the following link for details of Registration offices on the County council's website including making an appointment on-line. The Registrars can offer 'Tell Us Once' which is a service notifying government and local council departments of the death.  Click the following link for 'Tell Us Once' information.

  2. Social Security Certificate (Form BD8): this should be sent to the Benefits Office together with any other benefits books held by the deceased.
  3. The Death Certificate: This is a copy of the entry in the Death Register. Each copy costs £4.00 (July 2011).  You should discuss how many copies you may need with the Registrar.  There is an adminstration fee when paying by credit card.
