Practice Development and Education (PDE)
The Practice Development and Education Department will lead and facilitate the development of a competent, knowledgeable workforce, equipping them to provide high quality person centred care through:
Leading in the innovation and dissemination of best practice
Working in partnership with all professionals, organisations and agencies
Acting as a conduit for the interpretation and dissemination of national and local policy documents
Supporting role expansion and embracing the challenge of working in new ways
Encouraging and motivating staff to innovate or evaluate practices
The Practice Development and Education Department facilitates the continuing professional and personal development of health care professionals within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Individuals within the department are responsible for pre-registration, post-registration, return to practice, overseas recruitment and vocational education such as Assistant Practitioners and NVQ.
The Department co-ordinates training and competency assessment programmes that support skills and role development. It also continues to lead the development and implementation of protocols linked to clinical practice, to meet patient needs throughout the organisation. These provide a supportive and legislative framework for nursing and allied health professionals when undertaking practitioner-led activities and skills.
The Department also facilitates the development, validation and implementation of evidence-based Trust-wide Directorate and Departmental Policies and Guidelines and associated documentation. The consultation and development process for Policies and Guidelines is undertaken as a collaborative partnership between clinical and Practice Development and Education staff.
The Department offers multi-professional clinical skills training in such areas as intravenous therapy and cannulation.
It plays a role in the recruitment of newly qualified nurses to the Trust in conjunction with the HR Department, and co-ordinates the Preceptorship Programme for such staff. Post Reg. Education , including the allocation of funding for post-basic courses to degree and masters level, is facilitated by the Department working closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery (NAM) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and other educational providers.
The Practice Development & Education Department will respond and understand the needs of the organisation and the local community to help shape the workforce locally and will strive to create supportive working relationships, both internally within the Department and externally throughout the organisation, which enables personal, professional and practice development.
