Supervisor of Midwives
What can the NNUH SUPERVISORS OF MIDWIVES do for you, the pregnant woman & her family?
A supervisor of midwives (SoM) is an experienced midwife who has undertaken training to become a SoM. Every midwife must have a named SoM.
Her role is to protect the public by supporting both you and the midwife, ensuring that the care offered is right for you & will benefit you and your baby.
She will listen to and act upon any concerns you might have about your care
She will support and advise you about your care choices eg place of birth
She will help promote good communication between you and your midwife if required
She promotes safe practice and is involved in investigations when the safety of you or your baby is compromised
