Nick will retire at the end of June after 27 years in the NHS and 14 months at the NNUH. He said:

“I absolutely love working at the NNUH but after a lot of thought I have decided to take early retirement and emigrate to start a new life with my family on a small farm in the Irish Republic.

“The team at the NNUH are amazing – I have loved every day of working here despite the pressures and have had one of the most exciting years of my career.

“It is a wonderful hospital – you should all be proud of what you’ve achieved for our patients. I know the NNUH will go from strength to strength because of the amazing leadership and staff we have at all levels and I shall miss it dreadfully!”

Chief Executive Anna Dugdale said:

“Nick has been fantastic, he has championed the role of nurses as leaders and empowered our nursing staff to make a significant improvement to the care we provide at NNUH.

“This improvement has been recognised by the Care Quality Commission in the inspections they have conducted during his time with us and the positive feedback we have received from patients, their families and their representatives about the changes he has championed.

“He will be missed by us all and I will personally miss his support and have thoroughly enjoyed working with him; he will be a very hard act to follow.”
