National Inpatient Survey Findings Published

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) 2011 inpatient survey shows the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is among the best performing Trusts in the country for patient satisfaction on waiting times for admission to hospital.

This was the ninth survey of adult inpatients by the CQC and involved 1611 acute and specialist NHS Trusts; responses were received by 70,000 patients, which was a 53% response rate. The number of NNUH respondents was 533 and the response rate was 64%.

NNUH was also among the top rated hospitals for patient satisfaction regarding:

• Admission dates changed by the hospital
• Privacy when discussing their condition or treatment
• Hospital staff help with pain control
• Provision of written advice for patients before they leave hospital

In addition, compared to other hospitals, patient satisfaction highly rated:

• Provision of same sex accommodation
• Feeling safe during their stay
• Confidence and trust in doctors delivering their treatment
• Confidence and trust in the nurses delivering treatment
• Understandable advice on how to take medication
• Overall rating of patient care

Anna Dugdale, NNUH chief executive said: “Our hospital staff work extremely hard to deliver our vision of patient care – To provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most – and it’s really heartening to see the positive feedback from patients.

“We are always striving to improve the standards of services we deliver to patients and greatly value patient feedback to help us do this.”
