Film Premier of Journeys

On Wednesday 13th June there will be a film premiere screening of “Journeys”, five short films depicting the heath care experiences of people with learning disabilities.

The films have been developed as part of a flexible and work-based learning package for health staff to improve health outcomes for these individuals who are statistically almost twice as likely to come into hospital and four times more likely to die early than the rest of the population.

They were produced by local community filmmaker Shelly Telly and filmed on location at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

David Neale, father of Nigel who is featured in one of the films said “We hope that when you watch this film you learn that when you work with patients with learning disabilities, you need to give them time – you’ve got to listen to them, understand them, think about things from their point of view.”

The screening will take place in Fusion in the Forum from 6pm-8pm.

The innovative e-learning package was commissioned by the East of England NHS and developed by the School of Nursing Sciences University of East Anglia in partnership with specialist learning disabilities nurses, people with learning disabilities and their families.
