The Arthur South Day Procedure Unit
The Arthur South Day Procedure Unit cares for adults and children requiring day surgery. Lion Ward is the children's ward within the Arthur South Day Procedure Unit (DPU). The DPU is situated in Centre Block Level 2.
We care for children from six months of age and cover all specialities. Lion Ward has 6 beds and a play area. All children attending the DPU for a general anaesthetic will have a pre-operative assessment within one month of their planned procedure. The role of the staff within the DPU is to give quality care and support to children/babies and their families who attend the unit.

The DPU team
The team is a multidisciplinary team, and consists of:
- Paediatric lead nurse
- Paediatric nurses and support workers
- Reception and office staff
- Consultant Surgeons and their support staff
- Consultant Paediatric anaesthetists and their support staff
The DPU also links in with all other paediatric services within the Jenny Lind as appropriate. The paediatric lead nurse can be contacted on 01603 286008. The unit is staffed between the hours 7am-8pm Monday-Friday.
