Acute Medical Unit (M for Men)
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) diagnoses acutely ill patients referred by their family doctors. These patients need rapid specialist diagnoses and a high level of individual care.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has been a pioneer in emergency medicine since the country's first medical assessment unit was created at the old Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in 1994. More than 2,000 patients a month are now treated by the AMU team.

Subsequent days after admission visiting hours are 14.00 -16.00 hrs and 18.00 - 20.30 hrs

The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is located in the East block on Level 2. The AMU should not be confused with Accident & Emergency (A&E). There is no access to the AMU from the A&E department.
Between 07:00 and 19:00 the AMU can be reached via the Out-patients East entrance, turn right and walk to the end of the corridor. Then turn left and walk to the end of the main hospital corridor, following the signs for the Acute Medical Unit.
The nearest car parks to the East Out-patients entrance are G or H.
Between 19:00 and 07:00 the AMU can be reached via the In-patients West and Centre Block entrance on Level 1, go up one floor, turn left and walk along the main hospital corridor, following the signs for the Acute Medical Unit.
The nearest car parks to the In-patients West and Centre Block entrance are O and M.
