Cytogenetics
Cytogenetics at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides a comprehensive diagnostic clinical cytogenetics service for diagnosis of chromosome abnormalities, both pre- and post-natal, as follows:
Chromosome Analysis
- Pre-natal diagnosis of chromosome abnormalities (amniotic fluid samples and chorionic villus samples).
- Post-natal diagnosis of chromosome abnormalities (blood samples and solid tissue samples).
- Diagnosis of acquired chromosome abnormalities in leukaemias and other haematological disorders (bone marrow and blood samples).
FISH Testing (Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridisation testing)
A wide range of FISH tests is offered for micro deletion syndromes and gene rearrangements in leukaemias.
Accreditation
The Department is CPA accredited, and participates fully in the National External Quality Assessment Scheme for Clinical Cytogenetics.
