Summary

One-day multidisciplinary course. Available to qualified Registered Nurses (who have attended the Deteriorating Ward Patient Study Day), Radiographers, Physiotherapists, Midwives, Junior Medical Staff and final-year Medical Students. There are a limited number of places available and so they will be allocated according to priority of working area and clinical responsibility.

Programme includes:

• identifying and assessing the acutely ill patient
• principles of immediate management
• communication skills for acute care situations
• use of a communication tool (SBARD)
• scenario based teaching
• ethics of acute care
