We aim to be at the heart of the local community serving a large population in a rural area. We touch the lives of many people as patients, visitors, members, fundraisers, volunteers and employees. Local people can get involved in a number of ways, principally through our large membership scheme, but also through our ward assurance audit programme, patient panel or as a volunteer. Here are some ways that patients and the public can get involved or give their views:
Staff Awards 2017
The Staff Awards are open for nominations until the end of May 2017.
Patients from across Norfolk are asked to nominate the health professional or hospital team who has gone the extra mile in providing their care at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital or Cromer Hospital.
To nominate a team or staff member, go to award nominations.
How we gather patient feedback across our Hospitals and the insight it gives to us, have gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months. More than two thousand patient feedback surveys are collected each month from across the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Cromer Hospital. For more information see our Patient Feedback section.
Volunteer work to improve the Patients’ Experience
We currently have approximately 675 volunteers and work with a wide variety of external voluntary groups to support the Trust and enhance the experience of our patients.
Volunteers have been specially trained to support appropriate patients at mealtimes, to provide therapeutic massage and dementia support volunteers have been introduced to OPM wards, and in addition to this some specialist roles have also been established such as Reading Aloud, Reminiscence, Breast Feeding Support and Music Therapy. For more information contact: email@example.com
As an NHS Foundation Trust, we have a membership scheme with over 16,000 public members. Members receive a copy of our magazine The Pulse and they are invited to talks on health topics and events such as our open day and fete. Members also give their views on health priorities and other issues. For more information, visit the membership pages.
Hospital Charity & Fundraising
Each and every pound you give makes a real difference to our patients, their families and friends.
The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals charity (1048170) raises money for a range of projects including care and treatment, education and extra patient services. The hospital charity is the umbrella charity for all our different funds which cover wards and departments.
You can support a specific area you just need to let us know.
All of this support goes above and beyond what the NHS provides enabling us to give our patients the best care and treatment possible. Your donations really can make a difference to the hospital. You can choose what area of the hospital you support.
The charity plays a vital role at the Trust from making hospital visits more pleasant for our patients to supporting us in providing better care. A large part of the charity involves raising funds for medical equipment, in the past the hospital charity has funded incubators, scanners, syringe drivers, comfy chairs, art work with the aim to make their hospitals better places to be: as a patient and as a visitor.
Quality Assurance Audits
This Quality Assurance Audit programme involves unannounced ward and clinic inspections by teams of three, in at least two areas every day across the hospitals’ wards and clinics. Comprising two senior nurses and an independent external representative from the community, the teams visit a ward or clinic and inspect the standards of care provided to patients in that setting including cleanliness, assistance with meals, medication and records.
