Travel related bugs, allergies and infections will be under the microscope when the Pathology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital hold a Sun, Sea, Sand and Science event at the Millennium Library at The Forum from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday 16th June.

Healthcare Scientists and Pathologists will be helping people focus on the importance of staying safe and healthy on holiday, and finding out which souvenirs not to bring back with them.

There will be a series of talks throughout the day, an opportunity to try hands-on activities and pose questions to the Pathology Team.

Consultant Microbiologist Dr Caroline Barker says: “As the summer holidays approach, we all risk bringing back some unwelcome visitors in the form of bacteria, viruses and insect bites. There is also the risk of deep vein thrombosis, sexually transmitted infections and sun damage to our skin.

“Our role is to help patients get the right treatment by detecting all these elements in the laboratory.”

The event is part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Royal College of Pathologists.
