Neonatal nurses dismissed
The gross misconduct related to medication incidents and a failure to follow normal incident reporting procedures. Neither baby suffered any harm as a result of the medication dosage incidents and the Trust has written to the parents to apologise and inform them of the incident.
The matter has been reported by the Trust to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The two nurses concerned have the right to appeal against their dismissal.
Chief Executive Paul Forden said: "We have apologised to the parents of these two babies and we very much regret that on this occasion two nurses failed to follow important incident reporting procedures designed to protect patients' safety and as a result have been dismissed."
