Hospital staff clock up nearly 2,500 years service

A record 93 hospital staff with a staggering combined service to the NHS of 2,325 years will this week receive their long service awards from hospital chairman David Prior and chief executive Paul Forden.

Ninety three staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust have reached the 25 year service mark and each of them will be presented with £200 worth of gift vouchers.

The long-serving hospital staff, from both Cromer and Norwich, range from midwives, healthcare scientists, consultants, admin staff, managers, phlebotomists, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, and radiographers.

Chairman David Prior said: "It is a real privilege to be able to present these awards to staff who have dedicated their lives to the cause of public service. This shows a remarkable commitment to the ideals of the National Health Service and I am very  proud to be presenting these awards."

If you were to travel back 2,325 years in time you would find the father of medicine Hippocrates had died just 60 years beforehand, Aristotle was in his final years, Ptolemy had just made Alexandria his capital, and Britain was in the throes of the Iron Age.
