Overview

To reduce the maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality associated with infection of the fetal membranes and amniotic cavity causing fever in labouring women.

Pyrexia in labour is a common occurrence with potentially very serious maternal and neonatal consequences. Prompt recognition and antibiotic treatment of the febrile labouring woman reduces the morbidity for the patient and her baby.

Clinical Guidelines
