NNUH on major incident standby
At 11.10am this morning the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital declared a major incident (MAJAX) standby in response to the explosions which took place in London.
MAJAX Standby means the hospital carries on as normal but is taking the necessary steps to prepare to receive casualties should that be necessary. We are assessing our bed state and looking at discharge arrangements should we need to empty beds.
If NNUH is to receive casualties it is likely they will be patients moved from other hospitals closer to London as they start receiving patients decanted from hospitals in the capital.
The hospital's incident room was set up this morning and is working closely with the lead agency, the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust. All hospital staff who need to take action under MAJAX Standby are already doing so and the hospital is operating as normal.
