Bluechip experience for hospital board

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust is pleased to announce that Anthony Habgood has been appointed as a Non-executive Director to the Trust by the NHS Appointments Commission.
He will take up his appointment in April 2006. Mr Habgood lives near Stalham in North East Norfolk.
Anthony Habgood has had an exceptional career in business. He is presently Chairman of Bunzl plc, a company with annual sales of about £3billion and Chairman of Whitbread plc, the UK’s leading hospitality company. He is also the Senior Independent Director of SVG Capital plc, a listed investment trust with major investments in worldwide private equity funds. He has previously been Non Executive Director of Geest plc, Marks and Spencer plc, Powergen plc and National Westminster Bank plc.
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Chairman, David Prior said: Anthony has had an exceptional business career. At Bunzl he created a highly successful distribution and outsourcing business. He has hands on experience of delivering significant change in large organisations and developing and implementing new strategies. This experience will be invaluable to the hospital as patient choice and competition are introduced into the NHS. We will have to change very fundamentally the ways in which we deliver patient care over the next few years and Anthony will help us do that.”
Mr Habgood said: I am delighted to be joining as a Non-Executive Director of the Trust. The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has excellent new facilities and dedicated staff. It should be well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the introduction of more patient choice and greater competition. Mr Habgood's appointment runs until 30th November 2009 and carries a remuneration of £5,673 a year. Mr Habgood has no political affiliations and no other ministerial appointments.
