NNUH takes a fresh approach to mealtimes

A range of great food including healthy eating options, cold drinks and freshly-ground Fair Trade coffee will be available at a new ‘food to go’ kiosk at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital from Monday 05 February.

Among the options available at the new ‘Fresca – Food 2 Go’ outlet will be freshly squeezed orange juice, and fruit smoothies, along with sandwiches, salads, tortilla wraps and continental-style rolls. Products and ingredients will be delivered fresh daily, and some will be freshly prepared in-house and branded with the ‘Fresca’ label.

“We are always keen to listen to our customers and we sought the views of hospital staff and visitors before planning this new facility,” said Nayab Haider, front of House Manager for Serco, catering contractors for Norwich's university hospital.

“The feedback showed that staff were keen to have more variety in their sandwiches and salads, with a greater emphasis on healthy foods so this outlet should fit their requirements.”

“Our customers want quick service but they also look for fresh, tasty ingredients and good value for money. And why not? Just because they work in a hospital doesn’t mean they should put up with poor standards and old-fashioned, tasteless ‘hospital food’.”

“Time is precious to our customers – increasingly they are choosing to grab a sandwich and eat at their desk, so we have designed ‘Fresca’ to cater for their needs.”

“Products will be packaged and labelled to let customers know what they are getting. We aim to keep prices competitive and staff will be able to take advantage of product promotions as they occur.

“A ‘Fresca’ we are also introducing a new ‘Latino’-style brand of ‘Tarazze’ coffee made from 100 per cent blend of Fair Trade coffee beans from Latin America and Africa. This coffee will also be available elsewhere in the hospital before the summer”.

Fresca will be formally opened by Anthea Nicholson, chair of the hospital’s Patient and Public Involvement Forum, on Friday 2 February.

You are welcome to attend this event. Please come to the West Atrium (Level 1) at 10am and ask for Nayab Haider.
