Hospital's positive patient feedback

The latest feedback results gathered from more than 1,000 patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital show high satisfaction levels.

Valuable patient feedback is gathered every month at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital using innovative touchscreen technology.

The hospital uses the Dr Foster Intelligence Patient Experience Tracker system which has portable “tablets” that patients use to key in answers to a range of questions about their care.

During December 2008 and January 2009 more than 1,000 patients (1,296) gave their feedback on services across the hospital from the Emergency Assessment Unit, the wards, Medicine for the Elderly out-patients and the Arthur South Day Procedure Unit.

The NNUH results for the two months were:

Medicine for the Elderly out-patients

  • 100% said they would recommend the hospital to family and friends
  • 100% said they were made to feel welcome
  • 100% said they were treated with dignity and respect

Arthur South Day Procedure Unit

  • 98% said they would recommend the hospital to family and friends
  • 100% said they were made to feel welcome
  • 94% said they were fully involved in decisions about their care

Emergency Assessment Unit

  • 95% said they would recommend the hospital to family and friends
  • 93% said the department was clean and tidy
  • 91% said they were treated with dignity and respect

Wards

  • 96% said they would recommend the hospital to family and friends
  • 94% said they had confidence in the nurses
  • 90% said medical staff explained treatment in a way they could understand.

Last year the health watchdog, the Healthcare Commission, reported that the Norfolk and Norwich was the highest-rated multi-specialty hospital in the country for quality of care.

The Dr Foster Intelligence system is used in both wards, emergency and out-patient areas to monitor patient satisfaction and deliver improved patient services.
