By-election candidate and swine flu

A spokesperson for the Norwich North Labour campaign said: “We can confirm that Chris Ostrowski was treated for a suspected case of swine flu. Treatment came from doctors at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital after Chris felt unwell and was taken there earlier today. He collapsed at home and was taken to hospital by ambulance.”

“Chris has just been discharged after receiving excellent care at the Norfolk and Norwich. Clearly, our priority is to ensure that nobody falls ill from swine flu unnecessarily and we will follow the medical advice and take every precaution necessary.”

A hospital spokesman said: “The general advice for someone who thinks they have swine flu is to phone for assistance rather than visit their GP or A&E. People should phone their GP or NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. They can then be assessed and referred to the appropriate NHS service. In this case the decision to attend A&E was appropriate. The patient was isolated by the A&E team, assessed, treated accordingly and discharged home.”
