Big C Centre Open Day

The Big C Centre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is holding an open day on Saturday 8 May from 10.00am – 4.00pm.

The Big C Centre, funded by the local Big C cancer charity is a drop-in centre in the grounds of the NNUH but a world away from all things clinical.

During the week the Centre holds their “Wellbeing Programme” whereby cancer patients can get advice and information from health professionals such as dieticians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacists, as well as cancer specialists. The Centre provides counselling, relaxation sessions, massage, reflexology, makeovers and scarf tying, and provides information about many practical matters such as care in the community and information on both local and national support groups. Patients and carers can also arrange to see a Citizens Advice Bureau Advisor at the Centre to help with finances and other issues.

Jill Chapman, Big C Centre Manager said: “We are holding this open day to give people the opportunity to come into the Big C Centre , to have a look round, hear what we offer and see how we can help support people through cancer. Many people say ‘I wish I’d known about this Centre before, it would have been so helpful’, so this will be an opportunity to get to those people. Anyone is welcome, whether they are patients or friends and relatives affected by cancer.”

The Open Day also marks the launch of this year’s Big C Cuppa Week. This week is when the Big C Charity asks people to have a coffee morning or tea party to raise funds for Big C. Anyone interested in holding their own coffee morning can telephone 01603 619900 for an information pack.

The Big C Centre can be contacted on 01603 286112 Monday – Friday and last year patients nominated the Centre as the Most Outstanding ward or department in the NNUH's 2009 Staff Awards.
