Hospital urges patients to talk about organ donation

This week is National Transplant Week and this year’s theme is about having a conversation with your loved ones about organ donation and there will be a “Heart to Heart” Sofa will be at The Forum in Norwich from 10.00am on Friday 9th July 2010.

NHS Blood and Transplant’s theme for the campaign is Heart to Heart – encouraging the public to have any of those conversations which they’ve been putting off, and most importantly, to have a conversation about organ donation.

On average, every day in the UK 3 people die waiting for a transplant.

Marie Garside, Donor Transplant Co-ordinator, said: “Our aim is to encourage discussion around Organ Donation and to ultimately, encourage more sign-ups to the Organ Donor Register. It also helps a person’s wishes to be carried out after their death if they would like to donate their organs and their family is aware of this wish.

Transplant Week provides an opportunity for people across the UK to start talking about organ donation and a timely reminder of how they can join the Organ Donor Register.
