Construction work to temporarily reduce hospital car parking
People visiting the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are being warned that construction work will mean the temporary loss of 60 car park spaces from Monday January 24.
Contractors will be working in the hospital's car park I, near A&E, to extend the radiology department to house a high specification 3 Tesla MRI scanner and a new CT scanner. The new scanners will bring the Trust's total for each scanner type to four.
The new building, which will cost approximately £2.2 million, will be near the public A&E entrance and will be connected to the main hospital via a new link corridor.
As a result of the building work car park I and the cycle shelters located within it will be closed from the date above, except for a proportion of A&Es drop off bays which will be remain and be re-marked to maximise spaces available.
Work will then start immediately on a temporary car park located close to Car Park I to offset car parking spaces lost during construction. The new radiology building is due to be completed by autumn this year.
Patients and visitors are being asked to consider using the hospital Park and Ride service at Costessey (a 12 minute journey on the number 10 service) or other local bus services to the hospital. The service costs just £1 after 9.30am.
People are also being reminded that the first half-hour of car parking at NNUH is free so that patients can be dropped off by relatives and collected later at no cost.
