New monthly Carers’ Café starts at NNUH

A new monthly Carers’ Café starts at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, during National Carers’ Week, on Tuesday 14th June from 4pm to 6pm in the hospital’s East Atrium.

It is being run with the help of the Norwich and District Carers’ Forum which will have representatives on hand to give advice on a range of subjects such as money issues and sources of support.

Refreshments will be available and the Carers’ Café is open to anyone who cares for a friend or relative.  It is being trialled at different times of the day to see what suits carers and the first one follows on from hospital visiting time.

NNUH’s Assistant Director of Nursing Dawn Collins, says “We recognise that family members and carers play an important role for our patients and we want improve the support available to them when people come into hospital.”

Christine Butler, from Norwich and District Carers’ Forum, said:  “Many carers often struggle on their own and feedback shows they frequently need help with practical issues, such as claiming benefits, coping with stress and relationship changes.”

The Carers’ Café is part of a strategy to support carers which involves improved staff awareness and training for carers.  For more information, call 01603 287634.
