Midwives from the Midwifery Led Birthing Unit (MLBU) at the Norfolk and Norwich University (NNUH) are hosting an awareness and fundraising event at The Forum on Sunday 25th November from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

As part of this event the midwives are looking for copies of photo's of mum's, dad's with their newborn babies, brothers and sisters, grandparents that were taken on the MLBU to display at the Forum. If you are willing to have your photos on display to the general public, please send them to Karen Dunlop, MLBU, NNUH, Colney Lane, Norwich, NR4 7UY or by email to karen.dunlop@nnuh.nhs.uk

The midwives will also be selling cakes, knitted baby gifts, handmade Christmas decorations and Christmas present idea's to raise funds for the MLBU. All items for sale are handmade by staff from MLBU.

Pam Sizer, Midwifery Manager said “The aim of this event is to increase awareness of the unit and to raise additional funds. The MLBU is a wonderful facility where midwives give one-to-one care and support to women enabling them to birth naturally, without intervention but with the reassurance that medical assistance is nearby should the need arise. The staff are really committed to achieving normal birth and plan to raise funds over the forthcoming year to provide additional specialist furniture to help women achieve positions in labour which promote normal birth and improve women's comfort.

Notes for editors

The MLBU offers women who are healthy with a straightforward pregnancy a home-from-home environment in which to have a natural birth. The unit is on the hospital’s Blakeney Ward and has four birthing rooms and three birthing pools. Approximately 50percent of women coming to the MLBU are opting to have a water birth and the majority of women are using water at some stage to help them manage their labours.
