Best paws on show for hospital charity
A member of staff from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is organising a dog show on 19 May 2013 to raise money for an appeal which will benefit cancer patients.
Tricia Baker, Radiotherapy Appointments Co-ordinator, and her friend Linda Lloyd, have organised the dog show which aims to be a family fun day out at Worstead Village Hall. There will be a range of competitive dog classes for those with pedigree canines and for those who want to enter The most handsome dog class. Family dogs of all colour, shapes and sizes are welcome to come along and enjoy the day.
Tricia decided to help raise money for the targeted radiotherapy appeal (TRA) because she works in the oncology department and wanted to help make a difference to local patients. The money raised through the TRA will be used to reconfigure some of the existing rooms in the Colney Centre, to provide state-of-the-art facilities for people undergoing internal radiotherapy, known as high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. The new facilities will allow more patients to benefit from reduced treatment times and also means some patients can be treated closer to home.
Tricia said: “I love dogs and thought this was something that people would enjoy taking part in. Everyone has been so generous with their support from prizes for the winners to wonderful raffle items.”
Louise Cook, fundraising manager at NNUH, said: We are so pleased that Tricia and Linda have decided to help raise money for our Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal. I know they have put a lot of work into organising a fun day that will at the same time raise much needed money for the appeal. If you have a dog or like dogs please go along on the day and support the event.”
Louise Cook added: We are so grateful to everyone who is supporting our Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal and are always looking for people like Tricia, to get involved in fundraising, to help raise our target of £600,000. Please contact us if you would like to help.”
