Chapelfield helps raise the profile on kidney disease
As part of World Kidney Day on 14th March, nurses from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the United Norwich Kidney Patients Association will be on hand to answer the publics questions on kidney health at Chapelfield from 9am to 8pm on Thursday 14th March 2013.
This event is designed to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys – an amazing organ that plays a crucial role in keeping us alive and well. Kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable. The nurses will also be undertaking blood pressure testing as well as giving healthy eating advice to those with kidney disease. There will also be a chance for shoppers to find out more about organ donation.
Also as part of World Kidney Day the United Norwich Kidney Patients Association (UNKPA) in conjunction with the National Kidney Federation are holding a sponsored run, walk or cycle from the NNUH finishing at Chapelfield.
For anyone interested in taking part is this event, registration will take place from 10.00am from the East Atrium Level One at the NNUH on the 14th March with the event commencing at 11.00am.
Sandy Lines, Chairman of UNKPA said: “It can take a few little changes to make a big impact on our health, the sooner we start the better. Awareness raising days like the World Kidney Day help us to raise the profile of kidney disease and what we can do to either try and prevent it or help others to better manage the disease.
Chapelfields general manager Davina Tanner said: “Chapelfield is really pleased to welcome back the renal nurses to Chapelfield to celebrate World Kidney Day. I'm sure that Chapelfield's shoppers will welcome both the useful healthy eating advice and free blood pressure checks. We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 2013, bringing health awareness advice to our shoppers on a regular basis. Chapelfield is committed to supporting the local community and having these events in the centre makes them really accessible.”
This is the third in the series of health promotional events being run in partnership between Chapelfield and the NNUH, to bring health information and advice to local people. The hospital stand will be located on the Lower Ground of the Mall outside H Samuel.
