Duo tackle 800 mile bike challenge for hospital charity

Biking duo Sean Aldred and Chris Penrose are taking on an 800 mile challenge in a bid to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).

Sean Aldred and his cycling partner and friend Chris Penrose from Norfolk will be tackling this challenge on 22 May 2013 in Norwich and will bike through England, France, Belgium and Holland in just six days.

Sean decided to attempt this challenge after his son Oliver was born 3 months early, weighing just 485g (1lb 1oz). He spent 12 and a half weeks in NICU.

Sean said: “We are extremely thankful that we were able to bring Oliver home in good health. This would not have happened had he not had the specialist equipment needed to help him pull through. This is our way of giving back to NICU and all the fantastic staff and hopefully giving other babies a chance of survival just like Oliver. People have been so generous and we would like to give a special thanks to our local businesses that have sponsored us, in particular KT LAKE who are our main jersey sponsors “

Louise Cook, fundraising manager at NNUH, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Sean and Chris have decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise money for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“They have being doing lots of preparation and we’re sure they’re going to have an amazing experience. We can’t thank them enough for all their support and want to wish them all the very best on their biking trip. If you see them set off please give them a cheer – they are amazing to give up their time to do this for us.”

Louise Cook added: “We are so grateful that people support Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund. Whilst the NHS provides the necessities, the charity funds projects that make the hospital experience a better one for our patients, visitors and staff. We are always looking for people to get involved in fundraising like Sean and Chris, so please contact us if you would like to help.”
