Hospital sea-side courtyard to be officially opened

The new sea-side courtyard at Cromer and District Hospital is being officially opened this week.

Local artist Jackie Finch designed the garden with a special sea-side feel. The space which is visible from the hospital cafe, includes a boat called 'Sagle' on wooden decking, a raised planter with colourful plants, and a pebble mosaic with a crab and fish design.

Emma Jarvis from the Hospital Arts Project for Cromer and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, said: “We wanted to come up with a fitting theme for the courtyard at Cromer Hospital and Jackie has managed to capture this perfectly. The design and implementation of the courtyard garden has been kindly funded by Mansell, a Balfour Beatty brand, the contractor who built the new hospital.”

Mary Northway from the Cromer and District League of Hospital Friends will formally unveil new seating for patients and visitors at the front entrance of the hospital. The seating has been funded by the charity and a plaque will be unveiled at 10.30am on Friday 19th April. This will be followed by the formal opening of the courtyard at 11.00am by representatives from Mansell.

Helen Lloyd, Operational Manager of Cromer and District Hospital, said: “We're really looking forward to these two events and will be hosting some refreshments and cake afterwards to say thank you the Friends of Cromer Hospital, Jackie Finch and Mansell for all their support and hard work which has helped make the courtyard a special, calming and relaxing place for our patients, visitors and staff.”

Dean Burgess, Delivery Unit Managing Director at Mansell, said: “Mansell Balfour Beatty are delighted to have been involved in the design and construction of the Cromer Hospital development and also supporting the completion of the new courtyard, which will provide for an excellent facility.”
