Bronze Medalist gets behind NNUH Cancer Appeal
Victoria Williamson, bronze medallist in the 2013 World Track Championships will be launching the Cambridge to Norwich bike ride in aid of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal on Saturday 18th May at intu Chapelfield Shopping Centre.
At this launch taking place on the Upper Ground (opposite the Sunglasses Hut) of intu Chapelfield, the NNUH charity will be urging all budding cyclists across Norfolk to come along and sign up for the annual Cambridge to Norwich 77 mile Bike Ride on 29 September 2013.
Money raised this year will go towards Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal, which needs to raise £600,000 to build facilities to deliver a new type of radiotherapy for patients with gynaecological and prostate cancers at the NNUH. Brachytherapy reduces the number of treatments required and will mean patients can receive treatment locally rather than travelling to Cambridge or London.
Members of the public will also be able to find out more about the Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal, general cancer awareness and representatives from Cycles UK will also be on hand to answer any cycling related questions.
Victoria Williamson, said Having had personal experience of someone in the family with cancer I am really proud to be supporting my local hospital with this event and hope to take part in the ride myself.
Anna Dugdale, Chief Executive for the NNUH and a keen cyclist herself said Having previously taken part in this cycle ride last year, this is a great chance to get fit and help raise money for the hospital charity appeal which will have a direct effect on people with cancer in the local area. This year we'd love to entice more cyclists from Norfolk to sign up and take on this popular cycling challenge while supporting a very worthwhile cause raising funds for our £600,000 radiotherapy appeal. Please sign up today and help us continue providing the best possible care and treatment to our patients.”
Intu Chapelfields general manager Davina Tanner said: We are very pleased to welcome the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Victoria Williamson to the centre to launch the charity bike ride. We hope that lots of our shoppers will sign up to take part in the challenge and raise funds for such an important cause.
The ride starts in Cambridge before taking in the stunning countryside of Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Wymondham finishing in Norwich.
