NNUH announces new chairman

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has announced John Fry, former chief executive of both Johnston Press and Archant, as its new chairman. His appointment was made by the Trust's Council of Governors today.

John, 56, was chief executive of regional media group Johnston Press from 2009 to 2012, and before that from 2002 was chief executive of Archant, a private company which publishes newspapers and magazines across the UK including the Eastern Daily Press and Evening News.

John said: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity and I am looking forward immensely to getting to know the staff and meeting patients at this outstanding hospital trust which contributes so much to the quality of our lives in Norfolk and Suffolk”.

A graduate of Cambridge University, John was chairman of Shaping Norfolk's Future from 2007 to 2009 and has lived in Norwich with his family since 2002.

The Council of Governors gave a vote of thanks to Mark Jeffries for his interim Chairmanship since David Prior left the Trust to join CQC in January.

Notes for editors

Mark Jeffries, senior partner at solicitors Mills and Reeve, has been interim chairman since David Prior, chairman at NNUH for ten years left when he was appointed as chairman at the Care Quality Commission at the end of January this year.
