Charity Golf Day Delivers a Fantastic Result
Shaun Larkins, Richard Dade and colleagues from the Duff Morgan car dealership in Norwich organised a Golf Day in June 2013 in memory of a colleague, Sean Terrington who died from cancer last year. The funds raised will benefit cancer patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).
More than 30 teams took part in the tournament on Sunday 2nd June and the healthy competition between the teams on the day was so successful that £9,505.41 was raised for two charities. On 29th July Shaun Larkins and Richard Dade from Duff Morgan presented a cheque for £4,752.70 (one of the largest single donations to date) to Seans doctor Dr Tom Roques, Clinical Director for Oncology and Jenny Tomes, Head of Radiotherapy at NNUH for the Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal (TRA). The other charity to benefit from the golf tournament is the Brain Tumour Charity.
Dr Tom Roques said: “For Seans family and colleagues to organise such a wonderful event in his memory is testament to the person Sean was and the high esteem he was held in. We are so grateful for the support given to our Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal and £4,752.70 is a massive amount of money to raise and will help make a real difference to local people with cancer.”
Shaun said: “We were so thrilled that the day went so well with so many of Seans friends and colleagues able to take part”.
The money raised through the TRA will be used to reconfigure some of the existing rooms in the Colney Centre, to provide state-of-the-art facilities for people undergoing internal radiotherapy, known as high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. The new facilities will allow more patients to benefit from reduced treatment times and also means some patients can be treated closer to home.
