Norwich Radiology Academy Trainees Gold Medal Success
A Norwich Radiology Academy (NRA) graduate, Dr Hameed Rafiee, has scored the top marks nationally in the Royal College of Radiologists Final Examination in October 2013.
The graduate from the NRA, part of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), was awarded the Rohan Williams gold medal for this achievement.
This prestigious award is presented to the Radiology Specialist Registrar achieving the highest mark for this examination in competition with candidates from Britain and overseas.
NNUH is home to one of three Radiology Academies in the country and was set up to offer additional radiology training capacity without affecting patient care, by splitting training time between the hospital and a specifically designed educational environment.
Dr Hameed Rafiee joined the Trust as a trainee at the Norwich Radiology Academy in September 2010 and is the first trainee of the Academy, which was established in 2005, to win this distinguished prize.
Dr John Curtin, Consultant Radiologist and Radiology Training Programme Director, said: This really is an outstanding achievement by a very bright, very hardworking, and very pleasant Specialist Registrar. Dr Rafiee thoroughly deserves his gold medal.
Dr Hameed Rafiee said: “I personally feel that the achievement is not my own, most of the credit has to go to the excellent teachers and trainers at the Norwich Radiology Academy, as without their teaching and support, this would never have been possible. I have enjoyed my time at the Academy more than I ever dreamed I would. It is truly a fantastic place to train in Radiology, and I am glad that through this award this excellent training scheme is getting the recognition it deserves.”
Anna Dugdale, Chief Executive of NNUH, added: This is fantastic news for Dr Rafiee and for all those involved in the Academy. We are very proud to have first class doctors graduating from our Academy, this is a great testament to the quality of training and the quality of our Doctors here at NNUH.”
