Durrants raise vital funds for NNUH appeal

Local business, Durrants, has raised £5k for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s (NNUH) Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal (TRA).

Durrants, local surveyors and estate agents, chose the Targeted Radiotherapy Appeal as their Charity of the Year for 2013 after a member of their staff was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Durrants Auction House Manager, Rebecca Mayhew was undergoing treatment for breast cancer at the NNUH when she heard about the appeal. She wanted to do something to say thank you for the treatment she has received so organised a valuation day and on-line auction as part of Durrant’s fundraising activities, raising a total of £5,000 for the TRA.

Durrants Director Nick Durrant said: “As a local company we wanted to help provide these additional facilities which will make a difference to local cancer patients in Norfolk and Waveney, especially as my colleague has recently received treatment for cancer at the hospital’. He continued to add: “I am asking other local companies to get behind the appeal and give their support to make the goal of providing even better cancer care for local people a possibility. Every bit raised will make a difference.”

John Fry, Chairman of the NNUH said: “It is wonderful that local businesses support the appeal, money raised is spent locally and will benefit the local population and we are very grateful to Durrants for getting behind our appeal and helping to raise its profile.

Louise Cook, Fundraising Manager, said: “We are absolutely thrilled Durrants has thrown its weight behind the hospital charity’s efforts to raise £600,000 for the new facilities. We have already raised more than £321,000 towards our target from pledges and donations, and we know the incredible generosity of local businesses, organisations and people can help us reach our target.’
