Maria has success to Celebrate
Maria Cooke, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Senior Registrar at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has been short listed for the Trainee/Student Leader of the Year in the Celebrating Success Awards.
The award is for candidates who demonstrate excellent leadership skills, improve the support for trainees, and enable them to provide input into how their training programmes run. Nominated by one of her trainees, Maria has been recognised for her vision particularly in education, sustainability and her ability to engage and involve others.
Maria's work establishing and developing a network to support trainees within the Eastern region has expanded and developed into a committee with representation from every Trust. This enabled the trainees to input into regional committees, school boards and beyond, improving the influence that they have within the region.
Edward Prosser-Snelling, an Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) trainee said: “Her ability to engage and involve others in seeing her vision is impressive and she has delivered on a number of local and national projects. Her commitment and drive have been an inspiration to me and those around her.”
Prof. Krishna Sethia, Medical Director added; We are very pleased that Maria has been recognised and shortlisted for this achievement, her dedication to the trainees enables us to continue to develop our medical workforce and provide the best care possible to our patients.
Maria commented: “I'm delighted to receive the nomination and I'm pleased to be a part of the N&N team as the training is excellent, as shown in the high scores for O&G in the annual General Medical Council Trainee survey. The team I work with are incredibly supportive and inspiring. I wouldn't have been able to get this far without their continued help and support.”
The winner will be announced at an award ceremony on Thursday 27 November sponsored by NHS Heath Education East of England.
