Get ahead of the professionals – ride the Tour of Britain Route for Charity!

The NNUH charity is encouraging cyclists of all abilities to join their annual bike ride on 6th September 2015.

Cyclists on the charity bike ride will follow the southern section of the Tour of Britain stage through Norfolk just a week before the UK’s biggest professional cycle race returns to East Anglia on September 12th.

The NNUH Sportive offers a choice of three circular routes (100 miles, 40 miles or 20 miles) all of which will cover the same roads as the Tour stage as it leaves Norwich and heads into Suffolk via Thetford. Riders will turn off the Tour stage roads and complete their ride by returning to the event HQ at NNUH through the quiet leafy lanes of South Norfolk and Breckland.

Fundraising Manager Louise Cook said: “We wanted to build on the success of our previous bike ride and we are confident that the association with the Tour of Britain will help us get a good response to our 2015 cycling event. When we planned it earlier this year we had the idea of using the Tour of Britain as a possible route so we are very excited that the ride is so close to the real race in timing. The longer routes we have chosen cover a large part of the Tour of Britain roads in Norfolk, so riders can really feel that bit closer to their sporting heroes.”

Money raised by this event will help fund additional facilities to improve patients’ experience in the hospital, up to £9* from every entry fee will go direct to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital charity. If anyone wants to raise additional sponsorship, they can choose any hospital department or ward to benefit from these donations, helping for example, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, cardiology or stroke patients, or many others. The funds raised all help to make someone’s stay or visit to the hospital a brighter, better and happier experience.

As well as the charitable donation, the entry fee provides free ‘on route’ feed stops; electronic timing, fully signposted routes; full medical and mechanical support and transport back to event HQ for anyone unable to finish their ride. The start and finish is at the main NNUH Colney Lane site where ample free car parking will be available.

Louise added: “With entry costing from just £16, why not ride for a reason and help NNUH improve patients’ experience. Support a charity which could help you, your friends, relatives or work colleagues – a charity which is really local.”
