For the first time ever, the NHS and Social Care in the east of England have come together to offer apprentices the chance to work across both health and social care within the same programme.
Employers are coming together across Norfolk and Suffolk to form partnerships offering unique Apprenticeship training opportunities for people who would like to work in a health and social care setting. Health Education East of England (HEEoE) is working with employers to create Integrated Apprenticeships across Health and Social Care.
These training posts will enable the apprentice to undertake a qualification which will provide the individuals with valuable work placements with more than one organisation across health and social care settings these could include hospitals and community care.
Ross Collett, Head of HEEoE Norfolk and Suffolk Workforce Partnership, said: The aim of this new approach is to develop a highly trained workforce that understands patients needs across both health and social care services. We have also built the new, transferrable Care Certificate into the programme to give our apprentices the best possible start to their careers.
Apprenticeship Week sees the start of the first programme for seven Young Apprentices commencing in Norwich on Thursday 12 March, with an induction at the Kings Centre Norwich followed by enrolment at City College Norwich on Friday 13 March.
This programme is a joint initiative between HEEoE, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Norfolk County Council and Norfolk and Suffolk Care Support. In this pilot programme, the Young Apprentices involved will work for six months in an acute hospital setting and six months in community care.
As this new health and social care initiative develops there will be more opportunities opening up across Norfolk and Suffolk for apprentices to join similar programmes.
All apprenticeship opportunities within the health sector are advertised within NHS Jobs: www.jobs.nhs.uk
We are training the workforce for the future to have the skills and knowledge to work in both health and social care.
