Help Make Our Playground Better!

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s charity is appealing to the public to help improve its Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital Playground.

The Jenny Lind at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is seeking donations so they can renovate their existing outdoor play area.

Louise Cook, Fundraising Manager said: “The current outdoor play area has been well used but it is dated now. Our team at the children's hospital really want to create a fun, playground for all the children who come to the NNUH – whether as a patient or visitor.

“As a parent myself I know how much my little girl enjoys being outside in a playground. To be able to raise the money to provide a place which looks bright, cheerful and inviting, which provides activities which will appeal to a wider age range, a place where any family visiting the hospital can go and have fun is so exciting.

“We know we are asking the public to help raise a lot of money. We need £75,000 which will be used to buy new play equipment, create a funky floor and provide that all important shade. This we hope will put a lot of smiles on a lot of children’s faces”

One parent, who has personal experience of the hospital having had to come to the Children’s Assessment Unit weekly for many months said: “The care we received from the unit was amazing and my little boy loved the inside play area but he finds the outside playground too babyish and he is only five. It could be so much more fun!”

Emma Dolman, NNUH Matron for Children commented: “We try our absolute best to help our young patients to cope with being in hospital or having to visit our clinics. All of the team try to make the hospital a warm, safe and fun environment for all our children. We have an outside space which although enjoyed could become such a fantastic place for children and young people to have fun. A place where kids can be normal and run around, to slide or climb or just take the chance to be away from the formal hospital setting.”

Note to Editors
About the NNUH Charity (1048170): As the registered charity for Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital we exist to make things better for our patients, their families and the staff who treat them. We provide funding for important equipment and all the important extras that make our hospital so special.

The Charity raises funds for those projects and services which fall outside the remit of the NHS. Thanks to the generous support of our fundraisers the hospital can provide a level of patient care beyond what NHS funding alone can deliver. Together we can make projects happen sooner and to a greater degree than might otherwise have been possible.
