NNUH Volunteers employ new recruits

As part of Volunteers' Week from 1st – 7th June hospital bosses at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) have been giving up their spare time and trying their hand at volunteering.

On Monday 1st June, Anna Dugdale, NNUH Chief Executive worked on the East Out-Patient Reception Desk alongside volunteers Angie Chisholm and Michael Duncum. To end the week, Emma McKay, NNUH Director of Nursing will be carrying our patient experience surveys with volunteer Sue Dennison on Friday 5th June.

The NNUH currently has almost 700 volunteers working in many different areas of the hospital who give up their free time on a regular basis to help patients throughout the NNUH. The NNUH is the first organisation in the UK to achieve re-accreditation of the prestigious Investing in Volunteers quality standard for the fourth time recognising the excellent work that NNUH do with our volunteers.

Sally Knights, Voluntary Services Manager said “This annual event celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The Week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too. Up and down the country, individuals and organisations will hold events to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and inspire others to take part.”

Jon Fry, Chairman said “We owe a huge debt to all our volunteers as they provide a valuable service for both patients and staff and I wanted to get involved in this week to see first-hand what it’s like to be a volunteer.”

Anna Dugdale, Chief Executive said “we are always looking to recruit new volunteers and this week is an excellent way of highlighting just some of the valuable activities that our volunteers get involved in with our patients.”
