Generous Lions donate emergency wash bags for NNUH Patients

Taverham and District Lions Club is helping patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by funding complimentary wash bags containing essential toiletries for those who face an emergency admission.

Washbags containing a comb, flannel, sponge, shampoo, soap, tooth brush and tooth paste, will be given to people who need an overnight stay in hospital and do not have the means to purchase items or family members who can help.

The generous wash bags are courtesy of the Taverham Lions who have donated £300 for the items for patients.

Malcom Neal, President of Taverham and District Lions Club, said: “As a club we wanted to help our local hospital and to give something really meaningful to patients and the dignity packs seemed to fit the bill.”

Jane Douglas, NNUH Older Person’s Medicine Matron commented: “At times patients are required to reside at the hospital following an emergency admission that, due to their circumstances, does not have items such as toiletries, required for an overnight stay.  Sadly, as a hospital we do not have these items to give out and therefore we are very grateful for this donation as it will allow us to a patient’s stay more comfortable.”

Louise Cook Fundraising Manager added: “We are delighted with these packs which certain patients will find very useful when they come into the hospital. We would like to thank the Taverham Lions for their generous and well considered gift. There are many opportunities within the hospital where organisations and people can give and really make a difference. This is one very practical way of helping.’’
