Local charity Ellie’s Love supports playground appeal
Ellie’s Love, a local charity set up to support local people with cystic fibrosis, has raised £7,000 towards the Jenny Lind playground at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).
Ellie’s Love was set up in memory of Ellie Loades who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth and sadly died aged 16. Due to the condition Ellie required a number of stays on Buxton ward in NNUH.
Following Ellie’s death, her parents Nick and Elaine, who are from Fakenham, decided to set up the charity in her memory and have purchased a whole range of equipment and items which directly benefit cystic fibrosis patients at NNUH.
Now the charity has supported the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital Playground appeal which is raising money to transform the outside play area to be more fun and interactive for patients and children visiting relatives. The bulk of playground donation was raised from supporters taking part in the NNUH bike ride which took place earlier in the year.
Emma Dolman, Matron of Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital at NNUH said; “The support we have received from Ellie’s Love has been tremendous. We are very grateful to Nick and Elaine for all their efforts which are making a real difference to our young patients.”
Nick and Elaine want to thank everyone for their support with fundraising, particularly young patient Alison Cromarty who raised £845 for Ellie’s Love through events and bucket collections. Nick said, ‘’The whole community has been behind us and everyone wants to see the funds benefit a local cause. The hospital had helped us so much throughout Ellie’s life, so it’s comforting to be able to give something back.”
Louise Cook, fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted with this generous donation which will benefit many local families using the hospital services.”
