NNUH Cystic Fibrosis team to ride Tour of Britain route for hospital charity
On Sunday 11th September cyclists will be taking to the roads of Norfolk for the NNUH Tour Sportive, an annual charity bike ride to raise money for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital charity.
Amongst those taking part are members of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis team at the NNUH, who will be cycling 60 miles each to raise funds to benefit patients with cystic fibrosis. Hannah Burton, Cystic Fibrosis Dietician, is part of a diverse team, which also includes pharmacists, physiotherapists and specialist nurses, taking up the challenge. She said, ‘This is my second bike ride for the hospital charity so I’m excited to be taking part. We’re planning to work as a team during the ride and support each other to make it to the finish line. We really hope people will support us to raise money for our cystic fibrosis fund at the hospital.’
The event starts early at 08:00 with riders selecting between three circular routes covering distances of 30, 60 or 100 miles. All routes cover the same roads used for the 2015 Tour of Britain and 2016 Women’s Tour. Riders will turn off the Tour stage roads and complete their ride by returning to the event headquarters at NNUH through the quiet leafy lanes of South Norfolk and Breckland.
Anyone can join the ride and take advantage of the opportunity to cycle the famous route; entries will directly support the NNUH charity, with up to £9* per rider going directly to fundraising efforts. Participants can choose to raise additional funds for specific wards or services within the hospital should they wish to do so.
As well as the charitable donation, the entry fee provides free ‘on route’ energy drink and snack stops; electronic timing; fully signposted routes; full medical and mechanical support and transport back to event HQ for anyone unable to finish their ride. The start and finish of the tour is at the main NNUH Colney Lane site where ample free car parking will be available.
Louise Cook, Fundraising Manager at NNUH said ‘We’re thrilled that our Adult Cystic Fibrosis team is taking part this year and I am sure they will have a great time on the tour. Last year we had over 300 people take part in the bike ride and managed to raise over £3,300 for the hospital charity through entry fees alone. We’re hoping that this year we can surpass that total and have a fantastic time exploring our local countryside in the process. It’s always a great day and you don’t have to be a seasoned cyclist to take part, there are route options available for novices and experienced riders.’
She added ‘We are keen for as many people as possible to get involved and sign up for the ride. This is your chance to help your local hospital by raising money whilst having fun and getting fit.’
