Parents to host ball to raise money for NNUH charity in memory of their daughter

A mum and dad from Poringland will be hosting a fundraising ball on Saturday 1st July 2017 to raise money for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital charity in honour of their daughter who passed away in 2010.

Emily and Oz Wilson will be holding the event at the Army Reserve Centre on Aylsham Road in Norwich from 7pm till midnight. The funds raised will go towards re-furbishing the parent’s room on Buxton Ward, as well as going towards buying new beds for parents staying overnight at the hospital with their children.

The couple’s daughter, Pixie Belle, passed away suddenly aged 13 months on 3rd July 2010. Since then, Emily and Oz have actively raised money to fund research and help support other families similar to them.

Emily who is an Activities Co-ordinator at a care home said: “Losing a child is the worst thing any parent can go through, and we chose to raise funds for the NNUH charity because we wanted to support local families going through distressing times. We have fundraised a lot in the past; however we thought it was time to do something a little more special. This year would have been Pixie’s 8th birthday, and we wanted to hold a fundraising ball to mark it.”

Louise Cook, NNUH Fundraising Manager said: “We are very privileged that Emily and Oz have decided to raise money for Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital, and the funds raised will go towards improving facilities for families who are going through very difficult times. We wish them all the success with the charity ball.”

Louise added: “To have people support the hospital charity in such a way is truly amazing. Whilst the NHS provides the necessities, the charity funds projects that make the hospital experience a better one for our patients.”

Lucy Weavers, NNUH Divisional Nursing Director said: “We are incredibly grateful to Emily and Oz for their support, and the funds raised from their event will massively benefit those parents who may be going through a very difficult time. Every penny that goes to the hospital charity helps to improve the experience of patients in our care and their families.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £30 each or £200 for a table which can seat eight people. The ticket will include a welcome drink, three-course meal, entertainment from bands ‘My Cocoon’ and ‘AudioJack’ plus a late bar and disco. There will also be a raffle and an auction.

In addition to this event, the couple will also be organising a six aside football tournament on Saturday 1st July 2017 prior to the ball. This will be held at Long Stratton Football Club and will be £15 to enter a team.

Emily and Oz are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the hospital charity. To book your ticket to the ball or charity football match, email emwilson1950@gmail.com or call 07856704910.
