Nurse prepares for London Marathon to support hospital charity
NNUH Nurse Caroline Tayler is preparing to run the London Marathon on April 22 for the hospital charity’s VOiCE fund.
VOiCE supports local women going through or having experienced any gynaecological cancers, including Vulval, Ovarian, Cervical and Endometrial cancers.
Caroline has been running for more than 36 years, and for the past 25 years has raced a variety of distances from 5k to marathons and takes part in cross country events for the East Anglian Cross Country League.
Her love of running has taken her to races all over the world: “My favourite marathon is the Big Sur in California – it is such a tough, hilly course but very beautiful with the ocean mostly in view and such stunning scenery you almost forget how tough it is.
“My training is going very well. I throw in a few cross country races and beach runs into the training plan, just to mix it up a bit, but most important is the long run of 15 miles or more every week from now on until the race.
“I have done 16 marathons and every time I say ‘that’s it’ but there’s always another.”
She said of her latest run for VOiCE: “I work within our very caring gynae outpatient’s department and have witnessed first hand the crushing blow when such awful news is given to some of our ladies.”
