Hospital walk to support people with learning disabilities

A hospital walk will be held this weekend at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) as part of Learning Disabilities Week.

The NNUH Learning Disability Liaison team are working with the charity Mencap to give an opportunity for people with learning disabilities and their carers to come to the hospital, meet staff and become familiar with the hospital environment.

The event will begin outside the Benjamin Gooch Lecture Theatre on Level 1 of the East Atrium of NNUH on Saturday 22 June at 11am with a welcome and refreshments, which will be followed by tours of key wards and departments.

This year marks the centenary of Learning Disability Nursing and Learning Disability Week runs from 17 to 23 June.

Nic Smith, Learning Disabilities Liaison Nurse (Lead), said: “This is the first time we have held a hospital walk as part of Learning Disabilities Week and this aims to make NNUH a more accessible place for people with learning disabilities.

Anyone with learning disabilities and their families and carers are welcome to join the walk.”

Visitors planning to attend are asked to contact the team in advance so reasonable adjustments can be made if required.
