33 members of staff at Jenny Lind to take part in Park Run
Staff from the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital are aiming to run 165km at a park run to celebrate their 165th anniversary.
The event will see 33 Jenny Lind staff members running 5km each (totalling 165km) at the Colney Lane Park Run to represent the 165 years they have been open.
On top of any moneys the team raise from sponsorship, there will also be a bake sale and drinks available afterwards to raise extra funds with all proceeds going to the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital.
Louise Cook, Head of Fundraising, said: “It’s great to see such a large amount of staff getting involved in the Colney Lane Park Run. Their support and dedication is a huge part of why the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital has continued running for 165 years now.”
The hospital admitted its first inpatients way back on April 3, 1854 thanks to the generosity and goodwill of the Swedish opera singer, Jenny Lind.
Earlier on this year, the children’s hospital began their year of events with an evening of music and talks in the East Atrium and Benjamin Gooch Lecture Theatre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Dr Mary-Anne Morris, Chief of Paediatric services, said: “Fundraising events like this aren’t only a great way to celebrate the Hospital’s anniversary but also an enjoyable day for the staff to raise some vital money towards the services we provide.”
The modern Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital provides emergency and specialist care to children and young people from Norwich, Norfolk and often from further afield too. There is a large team of experts including medical, surgical, community and neonatal consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietetics, speech and language therapists, play specialists, psychologists and other professionals. This means the Jenny Lind can provide high quality multidisciplinary care from birth to adulthood for children and young people with a wide range of medical and surgical problems, whether these are long term or emergency presentations.
If you wish to take part in the park run or come and cheer on the Jenny Lind staff, the run starts at 9am Saturday 6 July.
