Local Youth Group Supports Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital

The Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital Diabetes Team were delighted to receive a brand new iPad to be used by patients thanks to the generosity of the Norwich and District Diabetes Youth Group (NDDYG).

Paul Hill, Children’s Diabetes Specialist Nurse said “Diagnosis is a stressful time for families, it’s informative but can feel lengthy and boring for some children, so this is a great gadget for education and entertainment.”

Gary Starman vice Chair of the NDDYG “We are all delighted that this device has helped so much. Anything that helps the clinic also helps us and our children. The youth group is there to support the great work that the Jenny Lind Diabetes Team do in striving for a better way to manage Type 1 Diabetes, treating it as a condition for life rather than an life limiting illness”.

Paul continued: “This new Ipad has been very successful in engaging our young patients. The number of patients and carers completing our regular surveys has gone from just 78 in 2015 to over 250 responses now using a quick and simple electronic version. Feedback such as this helps us shape our service for patients and their families. We are really pleased with such a positive response which is all thanks to the youth group.”

Fenella Littleboy, Vice Chair of the NDDYG said, “We work closely with the Jenny Lind Paediatric Diabetes Team and we’re grateful for the support of the team at our many events. We endeavour to assist them in ways which can improve the care or clinic environment and we’re glad the Ipad has proven to be such a valuable help to the team.”
