Best in region for NNUH Radiotherapy team
The Radiotherapy Dosimetry team at NNUH are celebrating after being named 2019 Team of the Year in the Eastern Region.
The award, which recognises teams and individuals who go the extra mile to make a difference to patients and improve service delivery, was presented by the Society and College of Radiographers, the professional body for those working in medical imaging and radiotherapy.
Dosimetry is a key specialism within radiotherapy and involves using sophisticated software to plan and assess radiation doses administered as part of treatments, based on an individual patient’s CT scan.
In 2018, the NNUH team of 12 created bespoke treatment plans for more than 2,500 cancer and palliative patients at the hospital.
Anne-Louise Ford, Clinical Operations Manager (Pre-Treatment), said: “I’m immensely proud of the team for securing this award, which is recognition for the outstanding care and attention they give to creating bespoke treatment plans for our patients every day.
“As part of the wider team of therapeutic radiographers we are dedicated to ensuring we provide appropriate individualised care for patients who we often get to know well over the course of weeks or often months. We’re delighted that our work has been acknowledged in this way.”
Mark Gilham, Head of Radiotherapy at NNUH, added: “Our Radiotherapy Dosimetry team are at the forefront of delivering complex radiographer-led treatments for our patients, and to know that our approach has been recognised as an example of regional excellence is fantastic.”
The team will be formally presented with their award at a glittering ceremony taking place at the Royal College of Physicians on 6 November.
