Bereavement support

While most of our patients with Covid-19 return home, sadly some don’t make it. Losing a loved one is always terrible, but being unable to be with them at the end makes it even more traumatic in these circumstances. We’re doing everything we can to support family and friends at this time, including:

End of Life Prayers: Our Chaplaincy offers simple prayers and readings for people of different religions at end of their life, or will visit them for pastoral support.

Family message – end of life: Loved ones can email messages, cards or pictures to familymessages@nnuh.nhs.uk, which are printed out and placed in an envelope with the patient on their journey.

Bereavement hearts: The public has knitted and donated hundreds of pairs of hearts – we give one to the family and place the other with the patient, along with family messages.

Bereavement Support Line: Our Chaplaincy also offers a Bereavement Support Line for families on 01603 287083. Find out more.

Bereavement Support information: Losing a loved one during the Covid-19 outbreak can be particularly difficult, so we’ve gathered together all you need to know about immediate arrangements and the support available to you.

Please note If you have been contacted by the NHS as someone who is clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid-19, and are shielding, we would strongly advise you not to visit.

Your health, safety and wellbeing, that of our patients, communities and individuals and teams across the organisation remain our absolute priority.

Our teams will do their best to help patients find other ways of keeping in touch with their families while they are in hospital, like phone and video calls.

Everyone should follow the expert national guidance on social distancing and self-isolation, staying at home wherever possible, to help limit the spread of coronavirus, protect the most vulnerable people in our communities and our NHS.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding at this challenging time.
