Guist Ward receives prestigious DAISY Award
Congratulations to Guist Ward colleagues who have become the first NNUH team to receive a prestigious DAISY Award.
The team, who specialise in treating patients with gastroenterology conditions and complications, received the award from members of our executive team on Tuesday 14 October.
The DAISY Award is an internationally recognised programme to celebrate and recognise nurses, midwives and nursing associates by collecting nominations from patients, families and co-workers as a way to thank them for the care and kindness they provide.
The Guist team were nominated by two families for the end-of-life care they provided and the outstanding care and compassion they received.
Their award nomination said: “The nursing, medical and catering teams in Guist Ward were fantastic looking after my mother. There are too many individual names to mention as I fear I may miss someone out. The registered nurses, HCAs, medical, physiotherapy and catering staff all showed a level of care and compassion they should be proud of. Nothing was too much trouble and they showed such patience and kindness towards her and my dad who visited every day.”
The Daisy Foundation was established in the USA in 1999 by the family of J Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) aged 33. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System and the Awards commemorate his family’s appreciation of the care he received.
Chief Nurse Rachael Cocker said: “It is a privilege to present Guist Ward with a DAISY Award, which is an internationally recognised award based on feedback from patients and relatives. This recognises when staff go above and beyond to support patient care and this is the first DAISY team award we have given out – previous awards have gone to individual nurses and midwives. Congratulations to the whole Guist team.”
